Original Baked French Onions
Whole sweet onions roast into something wildly better than the sum of their parts: tender, buttery layers with a deep savory center. Original garlic and a tiny bourbon-balsamic drizzle bring out their natural sweetness, making this a quietly impressive side for anything grilled.
Ingredients
Method
- Heat oven or grill to 375°F. Cut a deep cone from the top center of each onion, leaving the root end intact so the onion stays together.
- Stir Ellbee's Butter Olive Oil, Ellbee's Original Gourmet Garlic, Ellbee's Bourbon Balsamic Vinegar, thyme, salt and pepper together. Spoon the mixture into and over each onion.
- Wrap each onion in foil and place in a baking dish or on the grill. Roast until completely tender and caramelized, 45 to 55 minutes.
- Open the foil, scatter with parsley and serve hot with the buttery juices from each packet.
Notes
Time: 60 min
Kitchen tip: Vidalia, Walla Walla or other sweet onions work best. A standard yellow onion will be delicious, just a little more assertive.
